Chad had his first serious injury this spring. He has had sprains on his hand and foot before, but never an injury with a lot of blood. Chad is one of those kids that is afraid of blood. When he was three he was watching Kylie get blood drawn and he passed out onto the lab floor. One of the most terrifying moments of my life.
The kids were playing outside and I heard someone on a scooter fall, and then I heard Kylie scream. She kind of sounded like she was panicking and then I started to panic. I heard David yelling at her to get a paper towel but it was like she was frozen with fear and couldn't move. I went outside and saw Chad lying on the driveway in a pool of blood. I thought that for sure he would get up, see the blood, and pass out. David was doing everything he could to get rid of the blood before Chad could see it. He was crying a little bit, but I knew he was okay. I was just relieved that it wasn't his head. (Yes, he was wearing a helmet.)
I think he actually did see a little bit of what was going on. He has lost teeth, obviously, and has started to become a little less fearful at the sight of blood. But I still worry about the time when he is in a labor and delivery room with his wife some day. :) He got up, and after we checked it all out, it seemed like he would really need some stitches. But when we got to the doctor, they were able to glue it back together. I was so impressed with Chad. He handled it all really well. He was very brave, didn't cry, and was bummed the most about missing his friends baptism that afternoon.
