One of the things that I remember most about elementary school is outdoor science camp. I cannot believe that we have a child old enough to go! David and I are pretty active and involved at the school and they asked us to be chaperones long before it was Kylie's turn to go. David was able to get the week off from work and make it up at the end of the school year, and so we BOTH got to go. It was a blast. We were so happy to be there with her and watch her experience it all. She wasn't in our learning group, so she did have plenty of time away from us. :) Thanks to our moms for keeping Chad and Cameron so that we could hang with the fifth graders.
Getting ready to get on the bus and say goodbye to Chad :(
Cameron was home with Grandma and we had already said goodbye to him.
Not sure why she is waving goodbye...we were coming too!
On our way up, it started snowing. It was February, but I still didn't expect snow right away.
Needless to say, the kids were pretty excited when they got off the bus.

Kylie and her best friend Cierra tasting the snowflakes.
After we unloaded all of the luggage off of the buses, the kids went outside to play some games. It really started to snow at this point, and so they were basically playing in the mud.
They thought it was the coolest thing ever.
We went to bed that night with about this much snow on the ground. It was so fun for the kids (especially those that have never been in snow before) to feel it and watch it come down.
When we woke up and walked outside the next morning, this is what we saw!!!
SO MUCH SNOW!!!!
There was so much snow, we were freezing, but it was so beautiful!
We honestly had to tie plastic bags around our tennis shoes.
People in California do not have snow boots!
They even got to make a snowman.
The week was not all fun and games. They definitely learned a lot - just in an outside setting. I will never forget the night hike our first night there. It was SO dark (no flashlights), so windy, so snowy, and so cold. I almost thought that I had made a wrong choice in going.
But the kids were all troopers and loved every minute of it.
We all loved the time hiking outside. Looking at rocks and talking about the Earth's crust was all very interesting. It was so nice to be out in nature and see how much the kids enjoyed it too.
We were not in Kylie's group, so I didn't actually see this happen. I'm so thankful to the mom that captured and shared these pictures with me. We watched our group of kids climb this wall and it was not easy. Many struggled a lot and never made it to the top. I was so impressed to hear that Kylie did make it. She rocked it. She told us how hard it was but never gave up
and climbed all the way to the top of this wall.
The snow was sooo deep that first day. I am kind of in the back of this picture and
the snow is up to just below my knees. It was crazy!!
experienced anything like this before. Bow and arrow shooting was awesome.
The last class before we went home was a free choice. The girls chose to make some crafts with materials from nature. Here they are making bracelets with leaves.
The sun waited to come out until our last day there. It was so much warmer and beautiful.
Kylie found an icicle to suck on. So nice not to be all bundled up and freezing!
Great memories...Kylie was a part of the Coyote group.
This is her favorite camp leader, Dragonfly.
Not a great shot that someone took with David's cell phone, but here is a picture of all of the fifth graders, chaperones, and teachers. What a fun week, but we were all exhausted. We have already committed to going again with Chad in two years - but this time we know what to expect!
