Mr. Jim

Mr. Jim is the man that owns the shop where we always take our car for any kind of service.  We have known him for a long time now and he is always honest.  It is so nice to know that you can trust the person that is working on your car and that he is not just out to make more money.

I should have blogged this sooner, but I have to write this down.  I think Cameron was about three years old and we were hanging out in the shop waiting for an oil change.  Mr. Jim noticed that Cameron was checking out his classic model car collection.  He kept commenting on the cool ones that he saw and what he liked about them.  When it was time for us to go, Mr. Jim walked over to Cameron and gave him the one that he had his eye on.  I thought maybe he was just giving him the opportunity to look at the car and maybe touch it a little.  I was so surprised when he told Cameron that he could keep it and take it home.  I wish I had gotten a picture of Cameron's face when he realized that that car was now his.  It was the cutest thing.  Mr. Jim totally made his day.

We came home that day and Cameron made Mr. Jim a thank you note.  He really took his time and worked hard.  I love the picture of the car that he drew - it looks just like it.  I also love that he drew the J backwards.  It was one of those moments where I realized that my kids are growing up way too fast and I needed to enjoy the little things.

I went into the shop over a year later (thank goodness for healthy cars) and noticed something hanging in the window.  Mr. Jim hung up his letter and it is the only thing on the window. I told Cameron to look up and he was so proud to see it hanging there.  It was a good lesson on little acts of kindness.  I think Mr. Jim appreciated his note.
