Birthday Number Nine

Chad's birthday is always at the end of the summer so it is kind of bittersweet..  It wasn't a birthday party year, so we decided to extend the summer vacation a little bit and spend a couple of days in San Diego to celebrate Chad turning nine.  The day started getting ready for school and Chad opening up his present from the family.  All he wanted was a new scooter to take to the skate park that was bigger and better than the one he has now.  He was pretty excited when he took off the blindfold.

He had to try it out first thing in the morning and was loving it.  Unfortunately for him, it was a school day, and we had to get to school.  We did celebrate at school with popsicles for his entire class at lunch.  I didn't want to embarrass my fourth grader and take pictures though.  :)

After school, we were off to San Diego.  We decided to stop at McDonalds for some ice cream first.

One of Chad's favorite thing to eat is pizza, so we found a California Pizza Kitchen in San Diego and had dinner out that night,  They sang to him and brought him his own ice cream sundae.  Pretty cool.

We spent the entire next day at the beach and had the best time.  Chad got a new boogie board from Oma and loved figuring out how to use it.  It was a lot of fun.

One other thing that comes with birthdays is advancement in scouts!  Chad is no longer a wolf.  He has now advanced to the Bear den and is so excited.  I love his expression as they are changing his uniform to the blue color of the Bears.  So cute.

Happy Birthday Chad!  You are so smart, sensitive, and such a deep thinker.  You give the best prayers and really try hard to choose the right.  I love to watch you learn.  You are so great with puzzles and legos, and I really think that some day you might be some sort of architect or engineer.  I can't wait to watch you grow up and see what you will do with your life in the future.
