Teeth

October and November were very exciting around here. Chad finally lost his first tooth at seven years old. I thought he would beat my record of being eight when I lost my first tooth - but his darn stubborn tooth finally came out. I have been a little nervous about this process because at one point in Chad's life, he passed out at the sight of blood. He gets a little squeemish when we talk about it and you can tell he is uncomfortable with the whole thing. I explained to him when it got really loose that it would probably bleed for a while and that that is okay. I told him he would just gargle water and that it would eventually stop and then we would all be so excited because the tooth fairy would be on her way.

I didn't know that we would be sitting in the middle of a restaurant for Gabriela's birthday with the whole family. He realized that it was extra loose and got really brave for a second. I didn't want to discourage that and everyone at the table was cheering him on. So Dad pulled it out right there at the table in the middle of dinner. I watched his face on pins and needles once the blood came and then they walked around the corner to gargle some water in the restroom. He came back a few minutes later like a pro, proudly displaying his tooth to all of us there. It was very exciting. We got home late that night, but he sat up writing a note to the Tooth Fairy explaining that he wanted to keep his first tooth. It was really cute. He tucked it under his pillow with the tooth and woke up to find the tooth there and $5.00! What a lucky guy!

In November something special happened with Kylie's teeth too. She got braces! I think this is as big of a deal for me as it is for her. I had to wait until I was a college student to get my own braces put on and I knew that if my child ever needed braces it would be over and done with at an appropriate age. (No girl should have to have braces on for her engagement pictures.....yes I did.) She has two phases to go through, so she should have them off by the start of high school. She looks so cute and for some reason I feel like they make her look older. It has just been a few months and already I can see a difference in her cute smile. Looking forward to watching the progress over the next couple of years.
